Life Lessons, or You can't start the next chapter....

Its been a long time since I blogged.

Apart from the fact that I had lost access, and I really had nothing particularly good to post- (never stopped me before though, right?).. its been a busy 3 years.

Disclaimer:I want to point out that I am posting this for myself- and for no other reason, and maybe, just maybe it might help someone feeling a little lost themselves. Nothing I write here is directed at anyone in particular, so please don't assume that it is. (After all to ASSUME is to make an ASS out of U and ME.)😛 -I don't know- my Dad always says that.

So to sum up-

I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Curtin University.
I then suffered a complete and utter Creative Block. Some people might also call it depression. I'm only just now working out that for me- these things are one and the same.
I stopped working in Administration.
Returned to hairdressing.
Started creating again.
Started smiling again.

On the upside though, in that 3 years I learned a few life lessons. To summarise:

1. Money isn't everything.
2. Family is. (everything)
3. Creativity needs to be fed...every day.
4. Never let anyone allow you to feel inferior, stupid, unwanted or a burden.
5. Never work for a friend;(someone told me this once years ago and I didn't believe them. I was so, so wrong.).
6. Do more of what makes you happy and present in your own life.
7. Friendship is important but it is also a two way street. If you are doing all the trying- its not friendship, its a job. (see 5.)
8. You are not perfect, nor will you ever be, and that's ok.
9. You are good enough.
10. You are not your job.

So, heavy stuff aside- Ive started playing in the SoulFull Project hosted by Annette of the Art and Soul Studio.
This has been wonderful for me.
It makes me art journal at least once a week, but now I'm doing it more.
Creating art is my thing and its so nice to be doing it again.
The art journal page above is my effort from one of the quotes Annette sends you once you register.
Visit her page on Facebook for more info.
Its free to play, and she has a lovely shop too.

If something is hurting you- change it- even if its hard.
If you don't feel brave enough to do it- journal it, because a journal is like a friend who listens without judgement.
Perhaps it might even give you the strength to take things to the next level.

Ive been out of the loop with everything and everyone for a while now- so hit me up if there's something fun I should know about, and I will try and do the same for everyone here too.

Art saves- it really does.

Love to you, Deb xxoo

Bek and Dan

On the 8th March, 2014, I was asked by my beautiful friends Bek and Dan to take their wedding photos.
I spent the whole day with them- from 9:30 in the morning, to 11:30 pm that night. I took over 900 photos.
Seriously the most beautiful people- I loved every minute of spending the day with Bek and Dan and some of their closest friends and family.
I want to share a few of my favourite images, and for Bek and Dan. (because I promised).

Congratulations Bek and Dan for the future, and thanks for asking me to do your photos!!!
Love, Debxxoo

I am so completely crap at blogging..but...

Its been a busy, busy month. Let me show you what Ive been up to........
This month was the bi-annual "Toy to the World Project".
The deal is they send you (for a small donation) a blank vinyl white bear- and you go hard and go creative.
Then, they are auctioned off and all proceeds go to charity.
This little dude is called "Aintnoyogi"- I don't know if he sold or not.....
This little dude is called "Politely mad".. and he was sold.
It was awesome fun... not sure if I will do it again.. but I hope I helped if only a little.
Then... there was the Sketchbook Project. They send you a Sketchbook- you fill it in.. and then you send it back and it does the rounds of California before going to the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Art Gallery. I had only 2 weeks to get it filled in and sent back- so I was very limited in what I could do.. but I did it!!! It made it back just in time.So here are a few pages.....

Then!!! My two favourite girls and I went to Sydney.... and we hit the Brett Whiteley Studio. I cannot tell you how much I loved it.. I could even go so far as to say it was a life changing experience ..but I won't....
Then Miss M and I went to the Paramore Concert at Olympic Park . We loved it, but I think maybe I may have liked it better. ... since we went to Steel Panther- i think Miss M is ruined for normal bands.. LOL!!!!
Then there's been Uni. I have just started my final year. This year, I have chosen to investigate Poraijmos. (The Devouring). My family lore suggests that I am from Roma heritage  and it is something I want to learn more about, but I, like so many other descendants have no clue where to start.. because there are so many blocks in the way of learning due to the transient nature of the Roma, and the awful thing that was the Holocaust... it took so many pasts and histories away from so many families.
Anyway.. here are a couple of my experiments from the start of the unit...
This is an excerpt of a Paul Celan poem- tattooed onto pig skin and thrown in the dirt.
Just in case you were wondering.

Also!!Last and by no means least....
If that weren't enough.. I am truly honoured to have been asked by my fellow Gauche Alchemist, the wonderfully talented Rachel Whetzel to be a guest contributor to A Day in the Life of an Art Journal.(Check the side bar, guys!!)..>>>>>
Every two weeks there is a prompt to get your art journal freak on!! So seriously, go have a look!!!
Even better, come play along...
Anyway.. I have an assignment that is calling me. Best stop procrastinating and get to it..
So.. Until next month.....

Where the hell did the last 8 months go?

So, I woke up this morning and thought maybe its time to jump on the ol' blog and post some stuff.
Its quite possible I will be the only one reading this.. but that's quite ok.
I dare I say it.. but I kind of promised myself that I would stay of Facebook more this year.( is NOT a resolution.. I suck at those things).. and go back to blogging my stuff.
I will still do the ol' Facebook bit... but sometimes that place is just a bit negative for me.
So..what HAVE I been doing over the last 8 months??
My hubby and I sold our home, and moved to a 150 acre hobby farm in the bush.(And its the best thing we ever did!!!)
I have been studying on and off- art and writing.(This was hampered by the move- we had no internet for a good 8 weeks...yes..this was difficult.
And... lots of lovely arty crafty things for Gauche Alchemy who have been wonderfully patient with me when I forgot a deadline or had no internet for uploading all my projects.
Its nice to feel back in the zone now.
So..without further ado- I thought I would add a pictorial summary of the last 8 months worth of stuff.... (well, some of it).....

There are a few months worth of Gauche projects missing from here.. (when I had no internet)...but you can see them over at the Gauche Blog if you want to look!!..In fact.. you should go troll that site.. it is full of all sorts of stuff.
The girls there are totally committed to helping out those of us who love to make stuff....Gauche girls come from all over the world!!!
So it still blows me away to be on this Team. My good (and almost neighbour) buddy Peg Hewitt and the 'also my buddy' and totally bodacious Lisa Oxley are the Aussie gals on the Team.
So..thats some of the stuff.
Then there's the move.
Maybe for my next I will post some farmy pics.
Well..until next time..
Happy New Year!! and more soon.

Alchemy, baby!!

So...after a long break from Design Teams and making art for me and others rather than for marks....
I have been selected to join the Gauche Alchemy Team..making me officially an Alchemist!!!
How seriously cool is that????

Gauche Alchemy has an awesome blog here..
Where you can sign up for their AWESOME Newsletter....
and they have the most wonderful, eclectic kits like this one:

Its called Alchemist's Apothecary..... and is available for purchase!! TRUE!!!

I love what these gals are about.. its not just about themed kits... its not just a shop... it is a place to play.. a place to learn and teach and inspire and share....and these gals are real. Really, truly real. Art for them is as much a part of breathing as it is for me...
So it is awesome to be a part of what they are all about.
So come on, come on over and play with us...
Trust me...we won't bite.....
Not unless you want us too... *grins*
More soon.....

Ashleigh and Danny

On Saturday, it was my honour to take the wedding photos for Ashleigh and Danny.
It was a very wet day, but they weren't about to let a bit of rain spoil their special day.
I have to say, I had an absolute ball taking their photos-
so here is a little taste of what is to come in their wedding album.....

Congratulations on your marriage, and good luck and best wishes for every day in the future.
